The Peck Company was founded in 2002 by Todd Peck. Starting with a concept to help give more independence to individuals and those who have been incapacitated , through a multi purpose device used to fill a daily need. Todd and his wife started a company in 1988 in the basement of their home manufacturing baskets. That business has turned into three retail stores and a mail order business. The business, Royce Craft Baskets, built a new building in 1994, which now houses the manufacturing and distribution of product through the mail order and retail outlets. Through their Sunday school class Todd and Royce Anne came in contact with a couple that had cerebral palsy. Through the functions that their Sunday school class did with this couple, Todd started thinking of the different ways that would make doing day to day deeds a little less difficult if he were in their position. After visiting them at their home where they stayed, in a residential home where others were either confined to wheelchairs or bed bound, these ideas took root. Getting help to do daily tasks such as a sponge bath or eating lunch took a great deal of time both for the residents and the aides that perform these tasks. From looking at the handicapped accessible sinks at roadside rests, Todd believed the idea was good but the design was flawed. So he set out to make a better more accessible and portable design. In the case of residents at the home, most have to be taken from their rooms for a sponge bath. This means the movement of patients from their beds to their wheel chair. This opens the possibility for people to be hurt in this movement. Todd thought of a way to be able to bring hot and cold water to the bedside, also making the bedside wash basin into a table as well. Being able to swivel the basin over the individual, bringing it closer to the user, would eliminate any excess movement. This basin could also be used over the wheelchair in the same manner as over a bed. Finding a solution to help with this daily task was the purpose of this design. At this time, the Pecksink was born. It is our belief that this device gives more freedom and independence
to those in need. It is also the hope that being able to perform these
simple tasks will promote healing in the most dignified way. |
